The world events that broke the audiometers
TWO BILLION
Feron those
who participated in a human disgrace and a television success: the funeral of
Diana of Wales. Some two billion people (according to other sources , two
thousand five hundred) followed the event live all over the world. The BBC
received signal requests from fifty countries (among them, of all the Spanish
that existed at that time). The British public network also sold all the
programs and documentaries in its archive related to the figure of Lady Di. All
the benefits were donated by the BBC to the charitable foundations supported by
the princess. From Spain we sent Ana Rosa Quintana, Jaime Peñafiel, Pedro
Piqueras and Angels Barceló, among others, to cover the event, which cleaned
London with more than one hundred cameras and three hundred technicians.
This was
also the intended audience for the wedding of Guillermo and Kate in 2012. But
the verified data were more meager: 161 million people. A very high number, but
disappointed. The reason was clear: in the era of YouTube and streaming, it is
possible that the bulk of the audience (especially during the morning of a
working day) followed it through the online platforms of the televisions.
